Medical Society Provides New Site to Solve Business Problems for Surgeons

Miami, FL – The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) will now provide both its 6,000 members and non-members with specific tools to help them solve the most pervasive business problems that have been shown to complicate practicing medicine.

Studies increasingly show that doctors are suffering greater burnout and less job satisfaction. A Mayo Clinic study earlier this year found that half of US physicians suffer from burnout and that work/life balance has worsened.

“We know something about burnout and other issues that challenge physicians because we hear from our members and colleagues about these issues all the time, says Dr. Paul Wetter, founder and chairman of the society. “When you are dealing with so much change, it’s stressful. But we as a community can do a lot to make practicing medicine a better experience, and improving the daily lives of physicians, by calling on experts and engaging peers to help solve the very problems we struggle with on a daily basis.”

The new SLS Virtual Business Exhibit Hall will feature essays and video from experts in business areas such as leadership, communication, reimbursement, and stress on the job. Recent titles include:
Hiring Skills for the New Age of Healthcare
A Legal Perspective in Managing Your Money
Navigating Insurance Reimbursement
Working Optimally with Staff
Web site essentials

Dr. Wetter also champions activities that foster meaning in physician’s lives: promoting member excellence in both clinical and research accomplishments; celebrating new inventions and methods with peers; and sharing knowledge in a personal setting, such as its annual conference.

“These are issues we deal with everyday,” says surgeon title. “It is nice to have this from a medical society.”
